Booking an Airbnb for myself for the first time, and for no reason other than to rest was a weird thing to be sure. I have been taught as I am willing to bet so have you that rest is a reward only of painstaking work and shortly lived. However as a Jesus following Christian this is not what we are taught. In fact within the 10 commandments there we find Keep the Sabbath. Most of us can agree that yes we should not murder but why do we struggle to rest when they are both stated as commandment NOT suggestions.
I was wrestling with not having space in my life, a regular occurrence. How can I process the visions and dreams Gods given me when my calendar has writing in every square inch of my to-do's. God's Spirit nudged me to look on Airbnb for the heck of it. I didn't know exactly what I was looking for but I knew I couldn't enter my crazy season aka traveling season without getting some r e s t. So I am kicking off my travels with my first ever solo trip to Sonora a mountain town in Northern CA. I looking forward to resting, being bored, and prayer.

Happy June! Happy Summer Happy Trip Season EVERYONE!
This month I start my traveling season for the year. Traveling for missions trip and for vacation. It's a fun, sleepless, crazy whirlwind of ministry. I love it oh so much. Honestly, it is quite the miracle that this is my calling and this is my life right now. Those closest to me know that routine, space, and predictability are my jam! However, when I step onto the missions field be that in my hometown or across the world I am leaning into a whole other side of who I am. On June 17th I will be flying out of SFO to go to Point Hope, Alaska. Where is Point Hope Alaska you ask? It's extremely North and sits right on the Alaskan cost. Its a a town populated of about 700 people! That's roughly the size of my high school graduating class. What's truly special about this trip is this will be the first time ever a missions team is going to Point Hope. In fact, the local pastor told our team he has been praying for years for a team to come. Each time the pastor has presented the opportunity to other people they said no because Point Hope was "too far". Not for Global Passion! Our tagline "Going places tourist never see" for a reason. We truly want to take the gospel of Jesus everywhere but especially where no one else is willing to go. In July I leave for Panama, a special country to me since I went last year. I am taking a team of 8 individuals to partner with missionaries Gerritt and Tara Kenyon. They serve the emerging youth of Panama City through a day center called El Refuge. El Refuge is just that a refuge for kids to come after school. In a culture that has high levels of domestic abuse and neglect without any legal protection, the work that the Kenyon's and their team do is so important. As a rule during travel season I do not post as much as I usually would on a weekly basis but you can keep an eye on my stories to see whats going on during my travel adventures. But be rest assured your girl is going to share all the things when she gets back! #ONMISSIONWITHMARISSA |
